A Volunteer Tiger

Yesterday we played our first game of the upcoming softball season.   It was only exhibition and still indoors, but it was a game never the less.  It was exciting to play a game, after months of throwing, catching and hitting drills.   We are the Mississauga North Squirt Tigers a girl’s Rep Fast Pitch team with the Mississauga North Girls Softball – Fastpitch.  It has been a long and exciting journey to get to where we are today.  Whether it’s work related or volunteering your time, a project like this requires a lot of planning, execution, and commitment.  It has to be a passion.

We started this journey way back in September, when we had our initial tryouts.   Our tryouts were attended by approximately 18 girls.   After 2 tryouts we selected our team of 11 girls.   There are 5 new girls on the team.  Just like in the business world, it’s a challenge integrating new people  and making them feel part of the team.   We had a great team building session early on at Extra Bases.   We had an obstacle course, where an old team member guided a new team member blindfolded, by shouting out instructions as she navigated around the various obstacles.   We did other team events and some hitting drills.   We ended it off with a pizza party.   A great way to end the team building session with something informal.  As a team, we have been fortunate to work with  Nikki Beal who  did a wonderful job organizing this event for us.

Spring is around the corner and we are looking so forward to be able to practice outside.  The season is almost upon us and can’t wait to play more games.
